Johnsons Coach & Bus Travel is working with LEVL Telematics on a Geotab telematics solution which it says provided an instant return on investment following a pilot stage of the project.
“Within our pilot period the Geotab solution detected a faulty gearbox on a coach that was due to depart on a European tour, the fault was detected remotely and enabled us to repair it in our workshop prior to departure – with possibly thousands pounds of savings if the gearbox had failed during the tour,” says John Hatch, fleet maintenance manager, Johnsons.
Johnsons had an existing telematics product with vehicle tracking and driver monitoring, but wanted to assess the Geotab solution which includes advanced fuel monitoring, remote engine diagnostics with fault descriptions, emissions reporting (including ad-blu monitoring) and a driver performance dashboard and reporting tool.
John Johnson, commercial director, Johnsons adds: “We were impressed with the system from the initial introduction. The implementation and training has gone well and the vehicle hardware is quick and easy to fit, by our own workshop team. The system will provide many operational benefits and we are already reaping the rewards.”
Andrew Pearce sales & marketing director, LEVL, says: “We are so pleased to have Johnsons on board with LEVL and that they have already seen the power that the Geotab solution can bring to coach and bus operators. Vehicle health and driver behaviour can be overlooked by fleet managers when considering ongoing fleet costs, but fixing vehicle faults pro-actively not only reduces costly operational disruption but also has a positive impact on fuel consumption.
“The dashboard and reports provided contain a wealth of useful information with which Johnsons can make real time informed decisions about their fleet and drivers.“
