New MD for Stagecoach Merseyside and South Lancashire

Stagecoach has promoted operations director Rob Jones to the role of managing director for its bus operations in Merseyside and South Lancashire, succeeding former managing director Elisabeth Tasker who is now MD at Stagecoach Manchester. 

Jones began his career in the bus industry 26 years ago as a cleaner with a local bus company, aged 15. He gained his PCV licence and since then, has held a number of management positions including operations manager for Stagecoach North West during which time he won the Young Manager of the Year Award at the 2008 UK Bus Awards.

In 2010, he joined Stagecoach West Scotland as operations director and in 2012, he took on the role of general manager of one of Stagecoach’s depots during the London Olympic Games, delivering transport for athletes and media representatives. 

He was appointed operations director, Stagecoach Merseyside and South Lancashire in 2013.

The company has also appointed Alex Crane as operations manager and Neil Bolton as engineering manager. Crane began his career with Stagecoach in 1998 as a trainee driver and progressed to driving instructor and then inspector. After completing the Stagecoach staff development scheme, he secured his first managerial role and has subsequently held operations management roles in Aberdeen and Wigan. His new role is based in Stagecoach’s Gillmoss depot in Liverpool where he is responsible for over 400 drivers.

A skilled vehicle technician with over 20 years’ experience Bolton started his career as an apprentice vehicle fitter at Wirral borough council, before moving to Mersey Tunnels where he maintained highway and emergency response fleets. Over the past five years he has worked for ESSAR UK on Stanlow Oil Refinery (formerly Shell UK) as part of the management team. He will be based at Gillmoss bus depot’s garage and will lead a team of over 60 engineers to maintain 164 vehicles.
