New Volvo / Wrightbus double-decks for Belfast
Wrightbus is delivering 23 Eclipse Gemini 3 double-decks on Volvo B5TL chassis to Translink Metro. The single-door double-decks are 10.6m long, 2.52m wide, 4.4m high and have a maximum passenger capacity of 90 with space for one wheelchair user and a manual ramp. Also included are a number of features such as GRP wheel arches, 11-camera CCTV system and internal PA system.
One of the main aesthetic features are the glazed A pillars, which are also designed to enhance forward visibility for passengers. In addition, the Translink Metro logo is illuminated on the staircase glass and displayed with back-lighting on the front bumper.
The new-look Gemini 3 was first unveiled in Translink Metro’s magenta livery on the Wrightbus stand at the last Coach & Bus Live exhibition in 2015.
“Translink Metro took delivery of their first Gemini double decks in 2007 and these latest buses join an existing 195 already in service with them,” says Sam McLaren, commercial director, Wrightbus.
Translink general manager, engineering, Ian Campbell, adds: “We very much welcome the investment from the Department for Infrastructure in this new fleet. They will help us to maintain our high fleet standards in terms of quality, reliability and comfort, while also allowing us to offer even more capacity at peak times, with up to 2,000 additional seats available during every week day.”
